Michigan Introduces Youth Gambling Risk Education Program

(AsiaGameHub) –   The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has launched the Don’t Bet on Your Future initiative, a statewide effort aimed at shielding young residents from the growing dangers of underage and problem gambling.

Michigan Gaming Control Board Launches Don’t Bet on Your Future

The campaign delivers a clear message that gambling is intended solely for adults. Building on the MGCB’s previous Don’t Regret the Bet campaign, which promotes informed and responsible financial decisions among youth and adults engaging in regulated gambling, this new effort reinforces those values with a focus on prevention.

Central to the initiative is the newly introduced High School Boosters Program, a pioneering statewide effort that empowers booster clubs affiliated with Michigan schools to become key advocates in preventing youth gambling.

Participating booster organizations can receive up to $4,000 in funding by sharing MGCB-approved content about the risks of underage gambling through established communication platforms. These include digital and social media ads, scoreboards, event programs, and school newsletters. Eligible groups will also gain access to evidence-based tools designed to support parents, coaches, and students.

The Boosters Program is grounded in the understanding that teens are more receptive to guidance from trusted figures within their school communities. By leveraging coaches, athletic directors, and booster volunteers, the MGCB seeks to effectively reach young people with vital education and prevention messaging.

This new campaign reflects another component of the MGCB’s broader strategy to enhance public awareness about gambling-related risks. For example, the board recently partnered with Gamban, an anonymous self-exclusion program that helps vulnerable individuals voluntarily restrict their access to gambling.

What Else Is the MGCB Planning?

In support of its latest campaign, the MGCB has released a television commercial titled Warning Signs. The ad depicts a teenager reaching for his phone to place a bet, only to be met with visible resistance from his surroundings—a visual reminder that underage gambling is illegal and should be avoided.

The MGCB is also set to launch the Gambling Education and Prevention (GAP) Grant Program

In other recent developments, Michigan has temporarily halted plans to increase the betting tax, as lawmakers express concern that such changes could negatively impact the state’s expanding gaming sector.
